Welcome
Hi, I’m Oi👋, and welcome to my personal site! I was born in Macau, raised in Hong Kong, and have been living in the United States since 2003. After graduating from high school in Hong Kong, I immigrated to the U.S. unfamiliar with its education system. With the help of my relatives, I enrolled in a private college in Chinatown, where I studied Accounting for two years and met my now wife.
Realizing that Accounting wasn’t my true passion, I reflected on my interest in Math and Science during my time in Hong Kong and decided to switch my major to Computer Engineering. I was fortunate to graduate with honors and received recognition for the best senior design project. Collaborating with fellow students, we developed an online platform similar to Spotify, enabling users to upload and share their music.
I fell in love with coding, particularly web development, and was fortunate to gain hands-on experience across various companies, learning the intricacies of the development process. I still enjoy the work I do, and I know it’s not easy for everyone to say the same; I am truly grateful for it.
In my spare time, I focus on taking care of my two kids and family, understanding their needs, and providing the best I can. Additionally, I have a passion for console video games, though I don’t own a gaming PC. Nowadays, I have less time to play and have become somewhat of a collector, with a significant backlog of unopened games. This likely stems from my upbringing in a modest household where resources were limited, and I couldn’t always obtain the games or toys I wanted. Perhaps this is my way of treating myself now.
This personal site is a space for me to share my stories and experiences, particularly as a rare Asian American Director of Engineering. If you’re interested in joining me on this journey, feel free to subscribe. I’d love to hear your stories too! 😄
